Poems for People who don’t like Poetry

I was born in Ontario, Canada where I lived for 10 years. I first immigrated to the UK in the 1970’s, then a further four transatlantic hops, having served in both the Canadian Forces and Royal Air Force (RAF). As a result, I am thoroughly mid Atlantic in culture and accent. Now retired from military life I reside in Inverness, Scotland.

I first wrote poetry in the RAF when serving in the Falkland Islands where I had to give leaving speeches in poem form. After that tour of duty there was less need for poems but having caught the bug, I just swapped stories of mishap and amusement for Christmas letters and love.

Since then Sam Steele (aka me) moved onto poems on love, heartache, war, cancer, history and garlic (yeah that reads garlic). However, much of my poetry consists of observation on life, weather, men buying presents (or not) and anything else that amuses, inspires, uplifts, is thought provoking or just plain bugs me.

I have also undertaken a number of shows most notably in the sunset café and at Cantraybridge College with my Partner in Rhyme Allison Spriggs.

I currently work full time running a B&B in Inverness and part time as a massage therapist. I care for my lovely children as often as I can and otherwise my spare time is taken up tiring out my cock spaniel and writing more poetry. I don’t lack the ideas, just the time to write.

I hope you enjoy the poems I have been able to put to paper.

My Toolbox Doesn't Like Me

by Sam Steele

“A cleverly constructed collection of poems. They are both impacting and inspiring. Sam has an eye for detail and leaves no stone unturned. His observations range from being humorous to satirical and serious. These are poems that are easy to relate to and you will want to keep going back to read them again.”
