Sam Steele Poet and Author

Poems on love, heartache, war, cancer, history and garlic

About Sam Steele

Sam Steel was born in Canada and has emigrated back and forth between there and the UK, serving in both the Canadian Forces and Royal Air Force (RAF). As a result, he is thoroughly mid Atlantic in culture and accent. Now retired from military life, he resides in Inverness, Scotland and runs a B&B.

He started writing poetry when in the Falkland Islands, where leaving speeches were delivered in rhyming form. Having caught the bug he expanded to the annual Christmas letter, then onto poems on love, heartache, war, cancer, history and garlic (yeah that reads garlic).
Things that bug him (Self Service Checkouts) join his Victor Meldrew collection. DIY (and how he can’t do it) are a recurring theme (‘My Toolbox Doesn’t Like Me’) and he is always happy to complete one for his Mind Melting collection (‘Mourning, in Moorning, With Noon, at Twilight’ or ‘If a Toucan Who can Can-can, can Can-can with a Crow’)

Sam has performed around Scotland and in London. He has undertaken multiple shows and has been asked to perform at the Belladrum Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe.

In addition to his 2 published collections, Sam has branched out into children’s picture books (all beautifully illustrated by Sarah-Leigh Wills (Happy Designer)). He attends reading at schools around the Highlands. His book are:

Santa’s Adventure at Loch Ness
Rupert the Red Squirrel
Luno the Loch Ness Alpaca
